Dirigo Sea Farm is a sustainable materials startup based in Kittery, Maine, specializing in the development of biodegradable bioplastic alternatives derived from kelp and seaweed. Operating at the intersection of marine farming and green chemistry, the company is addressing the global need for eco-friendly materials that replace traditional, petroleum-based polymers.

Its flagship product, the Laundry Pearl, is a single-use laundry pod made from a proprietary kelp bioplastic film. The pod is biodegradable, non-toxic, and entirely free of harmful chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and phosphates. It offers a sustainable alternative to polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based pods, which are known to contribute to microplastic pollution in water systems.
